Celtic forward Deisenmeda continued his sensational season with yet another goal last weekend in the club’s 5-1 victory over Kilmarnock in the Scottish Premiership.

Hoop hit a comfortable victory in front of home support and bounced back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat to St. Johnston on his previous outing at the top light.

A close strike from Maeda and a great goal from Reo Hatate and Cameron Carter-Vickers helped the Scottish giant reach all three points.

Brendan Rogers’ Japanese marksman has been incredible form in front of goals throughout the 2024/25 campaign, notching in the 31st goal of the season against Kilmarnock.

The experienced forward has scored 31 goals and has so far provided nine assists in 45 appearances in all of the Hoop competitions.

Rodgers had to step up to the top of the pitch after the club approved the sale of proven goalscorer Kyoto uruhashi at the transfer window in January.

How much did Rennes pay for Kyoto uruhashi?

Shortly after his 1-0 victory over the young boys in the Champions League, he spoke about the possibility of a move to France for the Japanese advance before the deadline.

Six days after that victory, it turned out to be the club’s striker’s final appearance, with Rennes officially completing Kyoto’s signature at a reported £10 million fee.

Given the quality they have offered over the years in Glasgow, moving from Japan International in the middle of the campaign was a gamble by the Scottish giants.

Kyogo joined the club from Vissel Kobe on a permanent transfer in the summer of 2021 under the supervision of Ange Postecoglou, and ran 20 goals in all competitions in the 2021/22 campaign and hit the ground.

Statistics through the Transfer Market

As you can see in the table above, Japan’s centre has been a consistent target threat for the Scottish giants throughout his time in Glasgow, scoring at least 12 goals in all four seasons at Parkhead.

His best year in the Hoops jersey was evident by looking at the table, the 2022/23 campaign was because he plundered an astounding 34 goals in all Celtic competitions.

His form in front of goals over these seasons allowed the club to climb for £10 million for his services during the January transfer period, but he was not the most expensive striker sold in the hoops in the past decade.

How much Celtic paid for Odson Eduard?

In the summer of 2018, Celtic decided to spend cash on the new centre forward to bring Odoson Eduard from Paris Saint-Germain to Paradise on a club-recorded £9 million transfer.

The French archer spent the 2017/18 season on loan in Glasgow, scoring 11 goals in 28 games, persuading the board to sign the attacker to sign a permanent deal with a record transfer ahead of the next campaign.

Eduard followed suit with 22 goals and eight assist returns in 52 matches in all competitions in the 2018/19 season, including 15 goals in the Premiership, as shown in the highlights above.

The former PSG starlet has been a reliable threat for several years at the top of the Scottish giants’ pitch, earning 87 goals and 37 assists on the club’s 179 outings in all competitions.

These statistics show that Celtic hit the jackpot by signing a permanent deal over a club record fee, as he became a prolific scorer for the Hoops in his three seasons as a permanent player in Glasgow.

Hoop continued to attack gold at center forward by making a big profit for the attackers when he sold him to Premier League Side Crystal Palace ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Market Movers

Football Fancast’s Market Movers series explores the changing landscape of the modern transfer market. How much is your club’s star player, or is it worth the biggest flop of today?

Eagles Chairman Steve Parish described Eduard as a “proven quality” striker based on his time with the Celts. That’s why the palace was willing to commit a huge sum to sign him.

Thus, the value of the French centre forward spiked at a whopping £9.5 million between his spell with the Hoop, from the £9 million he originally paid for him.

Eduard also sold Kyoto in January despite Boys’ impressive goal return.

Celtic also won a gold medal in the sale of the Frenchman. Because he has only scored 21 goals in all competitions in his four years in England so far, all 21 people have come to the palace and no one has been in the current loan spell against Leicester City.

Odson Eduard’s market value comes after he left Celtic.

Evaluation through the relocation market

As you can see in the table above, his market value has plummeted from £18.5 million to £8.5 million over the past four years, as Palace and Leicester’s goals have not been shortened since leaving Parkhead.

This suggests that the Scottish giant has been regressing since leaving Glasgow, and played the blind man by cashing him in the summer of 2021, as it is worth even less than the first £9 million that Hoop paid to sign him from PSG.
