Kendrick Perkins describes the sudden U-turns related to Draymond Green’s NBA Defensive Player of the Year campaign.
For the majority of the 2024-25 NBA season, San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wenbañala looked ready to win the NBA Defensive Player of the Year award.
However, after the season-ending injury, Wenby’s honorary lawsuit was flat. We opened up opportunities for players like Lu Dort, Draymond Green and Evan Mobley.
Speaking of which, NBA analyst Kendrick Perkins advocated for Green’s case to win the second DPoy of his career. However, the former NBA player recently changed his stance.
Golden State Warriors veteran Draymond Green has been the defensive anchor for the team for most of his NBA career.
In fact, he was selected as the 2016-17 NBA DPoy for his contributions to the Warriors Dynasty. Green’s defense then dropped significantly before regaining it this season.
It was an important reason behind Big Park backing, backing the green to win the honor, but he changed his stance after seeing the Warriors star performance with two big losses.
“I change like the weather… in these two games he looks a bit funny. In one game with (Houston) Rocket, (Apleren) Sengun was defeating his a__.
“Then we enter the final game of the season with the (LA) Clippers… I’m watching that game, I’m watching him.
“I’m watching Draymond go to Zubuck. They were double teaming when they threw it on the low block.”
The above game had a lasting impact on Perkins, with ESPN analyst changing his vote to OKC Thunder’s Lu Dort.
“I was like, ‘No, no, no.” If you’re your player of the year, there’s no help. I straightened him.
But does that mean he removed the greens completely from his list? no.
“When I got to the vote, I was able to go to Lu Dort with the number one defensive team. But I voted second for Draymond.”
Can Perkins vote be a dream difference maker of Greene’s dream of winning another DPoy? Fans will find it sooner than later.
