The Chelsea chief is reportedly having internal discussions about the possibility of re-signing Maestro Kevin de Bruin from Belgian midfield in Manchester City this summer.
The 33-year-old is about to close his contract at Etihad Stadium, and it appears that Chelsea are evaluating whether he can snap on a free transfer.
This still appears to be in a very early stage, and it’s not even clear if there’s a lot of hope for de Bruyne to stay in the Premier League anyway.
The report says there are some sources who are hoping De Bruyne will be moved to MLS, but it appears that other sources also feel they have opened the doors for the English club.
Chelsea must have regrets Kevin de Bruin, but it’s pointless to sign him now
Chelsea didn’t give De Bruin a lot of opportunity to let him go, especially when he was younger, and show him what he could do.
Belgian International eventually moved to Wolfsberg, where he caught the Bundesliga in a storm before moving to Man City.
The rest, as they say, is history, and De Bruin became one of the greatest Premier League midfield greats of all time in his time at Etihad Stadium.
Chelsea will definitely regret not being able to enjoy the best de Bruin, but bringing him back to Stamford Bridge now seems like a stupid move.
De Bruyne is now past his peak and Chelsea should continue their plans to sign up to the top young players rather than this short-term.
It’s easy to be seduced when celebrities like De Bruyne become available for free, but if he still had to play inside him, as he’s done for the majority of the past decade, he would certainly have kept him.
