According to Uol Esporte, Arsenal has emerged as a surprise contender in the race to sign Manchester United Winger Antony.
The gunner reportedly made the first inquiry about the availability of the Brazilian prior to the summer transfer period.
Antony has endured a challenging spell at Old Trafford since his £82 million move from Ajax in 2022.
After struggling to consistently deliver in the Premier League, he was loaned to Real Betis in January.
The 25-year-old soon became one of the best players for the Spanish side, showing the talent and confidence that once became one of Europe’s hottest outlooks.
Antony scored six goals and provided four assists for Real Betis in 19 appearances in the Laliga and Conference League.
According to the report, Real Betis is keen to keep the Winger’s stay permanent, but is facing increasing competition between Atletico Madrid and Arsenal now.
Both clubs reportedly expressed interest in securing his services, with United being said to be open to selling Antony between £26 million and £34 million.
United have been motivated to offload Antony this summer and may be willing to negotiate prices, knowing that potential suitors know their willingness to sell.
Arsenal and Atletico Madrid hope for Antony this summer
The Red Devils will now use the strong second half of the LaLiga season as leverage to ensure a respectable transfer package.
Atletico Madrid will provide Antony with the opportunity to stay in Spain and play at a high level, but Arsenal’s involvement complicates the matter.
Gunners could view Antony as an alternative or depth option for Bukayosaka’s right wing. In particular, the club is preparing for a tough Champions League campaign next season.
They are the need to attack attacks in a wide attack area where Arsenal, especially Mikel Arteta, lacks choices.
Man United may be hesitant to strengthen their direct Premier League rivals. If a bid war continues, they can prefer to sell to Atletico Madrid via Arsenal, even if both clubs meet their ratings.
Meanwhile, the gunner is told to sign Crystal Palace star Ebeki Eze.
Arteta’s team is also following Bayern Munich’s winger Kingsley Coman.
