Myrtle Beach, S.C. — Carson Young stopped a 30-yard flop shot for the Eagle on the par 5 15th and shot a 7-under 64 in rainy conditions on Saturday, taking a three-round lead in the Home State Myrtle Beach Classic.

The 30-year-old former Clemson player Young, from Anderson, South Carolina, won a total of 13 under 200 at Dunes Golf and Beach Club.

“It was cool to see family out here and have lots of support with friends,” Young said. “I hear a bunch of “Go Tigers”! “It’s cool to be playing golf on my home state there.

Harry Higgs suffered a stroke after the age of 68.

“I’m excited to shoot with a par,” Higgs said. “It’s not raining.”

Winners of the PGA Tour event, held opposite the signature event at this week’s Truist Championship, will win a spot if they do not yet qualify for the PGA Championship.

Winning on the PGA Tour, Young birded to 13th par 5 and 16th par 4. I played 4 holes stretch at 4 under.

“To be honest, even when it rained, it was a lot of fun just because I was making putts and making chip shots,” Young said. “We played golf really solidly. There was nothing too flashy there. But it was really good golf.”

Mackenzie Hughes dropped 70 shots to two. The Canadian shot 63 to take a first round lead and remained at the top spot with a 69 on Friday.

Victor Perez had 66 to join Ryan Fox (68), Davis Shore (70), Norman Sion (69) and Danny Walker (70) at 10 under.
