UFC Hall of Fame Vittle Belfort wants to book the battle between John Jones and Anthony Joshua.
Jones and Joshua are two of the most respected fighters in their respective fields, and now “bones” dominate as the UFC heavyweight world champions, while Joshua is a former unified heavyweight boxing champion and an Olympic gold medalist.
Naturally, their two worlds have never crossed, but his own octagonal icon, Belfort, will one day bring together two fighters and challenge an event he believes will break the pay-per-view records.
“Get John Jones and ‘Let’s try Jones, the British fighter, Anthony Joshua,” Belfort said in an appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show. “Let’s ask him to come in the box with these gloves on. His fingers are not exposed, not dirty boxing, there’s nothing. You’re just going to use your hands. You’ll put 12, 3 minutes rounds into the box, but the ruler will be able to grab his hand and grab his head.
“I think it’s going to be a fight to break the pay-per-view. Especially Dana’s getting viral with boxing promoted. I think we have to level it out. We create a 50/50. We MMA athletes always went there and put it in the box.
Belfort wants to see John Jones and AJ compete in a real “manliness battle.”
“My dream, Ariel, is. I patented these gloves. You know, I’m going to send them to you,” continued Belfort. “It’s called the BMA. It’s creating a boxing fight where our guys can grab their hands in the clinch: elbows, takedowns, just hands.
Intriguingly, everyone knows that it’s not easy to get John Jones to sign the dotted line for a fight. Ask Tom Aspinall, the longest lord interim champion in UFC history.
