Glory is shuffling plans for the biggest event ever.
Originally scheduled as a two-day event to take place on June 13th and June 14th, the Packed Glory 100 event will be held only on June 14th at Rotterdam Ahoy, Netherlands.
The event is found by former two-time light heavyweight champion and recent heavyweight champion Rico Verhoven. Dana White Candidate Series Contract winner Artem Vakhitov.
A change in schedule was caused by fans’ reaction to the potential costs of attending two events over the weekend, according to a press release on Wednesday.
“We decided to listen to our fans and bring everything together into one major event,” Glory CEO Marshall Zelaznik said in the release. “It was clear that fans were in a position to have to choose the event. Frankly, asking them to stay 100 Glory and 2 nights was an expensive suggestion. In the new format, you can experience a glorious full scope 100 in one night. After all, this is a celebration of our great sports, fighters and fans.”
The 36-year-old Verhoeven is sought for 13 consecutive defenses against the glorious heavyweight title. The Dutch legend is one of the most decorated kickboxers of all time and has not been lost since 2015.
Vakhitov recently made the headline for MMA’s victory, winning ISLEM MASRAF in the competitor series that won the UFC contract offer this October. However, the 34-year-old Russian refused to sign with the promotion due to restrictions on negotiations regarding the candidates for the series contract. He was later offered the opportunity to face Verhoeven.
“Under their protocol, they were able to provide me with the standard contracts given to all DWC signatures,” Vakitov said. “My team tried to negotiate, but the UFC rules left no room for adjustment. I want to make it clear that I have no issues with their approach. I respect their structure. But I’m winning the award.
The decision shattered fans’ hopes to see Vakitov step into the Octagon against longtime rival Alex Pereira. Vakhitov and Pereira split the two fight series in the glorious ring, and Vakhitov won a majority decision in September 2021 to win the recent meeting.
The fight for the three other glorious titles is set to take place on June 14th, as current light heavyweight champion Tarik Kubabes Champion Sergezi Masloboyev and middleweight champion Donovan Whisse fight Michael Beaupea and featherweight champion Pecci rematches Miguel Trindade.
