The Los Angeles signed a minor league contract earlier this week, signing right-handed pitcher Kyle Funkhauser according to the team’s transaction log.

Funkhouser was playing for Mexico after missing nearly three seasons due to injury. In April he joined the Mexican League of Guerreros de Oaxaca. The right-hander was 1-1 with an ERA 4.50 and 24 strikeouts in 26 innings.
He recorded 70 career big league games with the Detroit Tigers, but hasn’t pitched in the majors since the 2021 season.
In 2021, Funkhouser produced a 3.42 ERA and walked 38 times over 68.1 innings with 63 strikeouts. His performances were career-highs in both his right-handed days and innings total.
During Funkhouser’s rookie season in 2020, he posted a 7.27 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 17.1 innings.
The 31-year-old was drafted by the as his 35th overall pick in the 2015 draft, but the parties failed to reach a signing agreement.
Funkhouser has an ERA 4.20 career with 75 strikeouts and 1.506 whips in the big leagues in 85.2 innings. The Texas Rangers were the latest MLB team he was with. The right-hander signed a minor league contract with the team in January 2023, but selected a free agency at the end of the season.
The ‘ pitching injuries depleted both the starting spin and the bullpen. And we hope that Funkhouser’s signature will provide the pitching staff with the depth they need.
Several pitchers have been called out by minors to fight the ‘ pitching misery, allowing Funkouser to move towards the big leagues.
