This past weekend, the Knicks lost six games to the Pacers in the 2025 Eastern Conference Finals. It was a disappointing end to the New York season.
There were rumours that the Knicks would consider changing their head coach this offseason. However, the team will stick with Tom Thibodeau and upgrade the roster. ESPN’s Shamscharania reported that the Knicks appear to add a “landmark” player after losing to Indiana in the ECF. Which player is targeting in New York?

ESPN’s Shama Charania said the Knicks will weigh their options this offseason. Do they want to acquire some role players who can become key contributors from the bench? Or do you swing home runs with superstars like Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetocomo? Charania reported that New York may be looking for a “landmark” player. Durant and Antetokounmpo fit that description. In the past, the Knicks were linked to both players, but never played in New York.
Over the past two seasons, the Knicks have invested most of their resources to build their current roster. OG Anunoby was acquired at the 2023-24 trade deadline. The towns of Mikal Bridges and Karl Anthony were acquired prior to the 2024-25 season. To acquire these players, general manager Leon Rose traded six first rounds and one second round pick in addition to giving up on New York players. Despite all the resources the team has used, NBA insiders still hope that the team will be offensive this offseason.
If the Knicks trade Kevin Durant or Giannis Antetocompo, they will be all-in for the 2025-26 season. The logical choice for New York is Anteto Compo if you want a “landmark” player. He’s much younger than Durant, and is the type of player the Knicks need. They have a lot of offensive talent to carry the team alongside Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns. What New York needs is another elite defense presence in their starting lineup. We need to wait for what decisions our team will make ahead of next season. This is an important offseason for the franchise’s future.
