On Monday, June 9th, ESPN’s Shamscharania announced that Darius Garland would miss four to five months. Cleveland’s starting PG has undergone surgery with his thumb and misses the start of the 2025-26 season.

In the news, Athletic’s Joe Vardon reported that he felt that Cavs were putting pressure on them to re-sign the backup PG Ty Jerome. He was worthy of Cleveland’s sixth man in 2024-25. However, the Cavaliers will be in their second tax apron next season. Jerome’s re-signing would push the Cavs well beyond the second round if they didn’t say goodbye to others.

After winning the national championship in Virginia in college, Ty Jerome was drafted 24th overall by the 76ers. On draft night, Philadelphia traded Jerome for the Celtics. Boston then swapped Jerome for the Sands again. There he played his rookie season. In six professional seasons, Jerome was traded three times. From 2023-24, he signed a two-year, $5 million contract with the Cavaliers.

Ty Jerome only played two games with Cavs in 2023-24 due to an ankle injury that required surgery. The 27-year-old played 70 of Cleveland’s 82 games from 2024-25. Jerome averaged 12.5 points per game. Plus, his .439 3-point percentage was his new personal best. Ty Jerome was a key piece from the Cleveland bench, but some big deals are kicking for next season.

Donovan Mitchell and Evan Mobley are expected to score 30% of the team’s salary cap between 2025-26. The Cavaliers are already on the second apron and are about to re-sign Jerome. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported that Cleveland is active in trade talks. They were able to try and throw away some contracts to make room for Jerome to sign. Cleveland retains the rights of the early birds of Ty Jerome. You can give him a significant salary increase this summer. Cavs benches may look different to start 2025-26.
