The Los Angeles Lakers enter the offseason with one clear priority. Finding a reliable center to secure your frontcoat. This important need governs the discussion of summer planning.

Several well-known targets have appeared in trade rumors, including Nic Claxton, Walker Kessler and Daniel Gafford.

The Lakers also explored famous options such as Giannis Antetocompo and even the larger Lauri Marcanen due to their size and spacing.

However, franchises may benefit more from low-risk, medium-cost signatures that retain the roster depth. This approach avoids complex transactions that could drain the rotation of already thin benches.

Kevon Rooney at Golden State Warriors Center has emerged as an interesting option for Lakers taxpayers’ mid-level exceptions. The veteran big man accurately represents the proven, affordable addition type of added Los Angeles needs.

The mid-level exception allows the Lakers to offer up to $5.7 million for Rooney’s services. His championship experience and elite rebound abilities make him an attractive target for frontcourt needs.

Rooney averaged 4.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game last season. While these numbers aren’t spectacular, his reliability and basketball IQ have proven valuable throughout the Golden State championship run.

The Lakers face competition from Golden State. Golden State is reportedly not letting Rooney leave sub-market offers. This reality forced us to explore alternative targets with similar value propositions in Los Angeles.

Clint Capella represents another compelling option. In particular, the Atlanta Hawks reportedly are attempting to move the veteran center. His availability with mid-level taxpayer exceptions makes him financially viable for the Lakers.

Capella remains an elite rebounder and rim protector despite the shortened minutes of last season. He averaged 8.9 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1 block per game, while still delivering an elite level experience.

Lakers supporters have expressed mixed feelings about these moderate signatures. Some appreciate the addition of depth without sacrificing valuable trade assets, while others prefer to pursue shocking starters.

Clint & Rooney must be targets in LA. Lakers dnt must give up anything and can find bench quality players

Many fans advocate for focusing on proven starters like Claxton and Myles Turner in Indiana. These players provide immediate impact rather than a deeper portion of the competition in the championship.

This is sad. I’m 31 years old, but for NBA centers, it’s a lot of mileage. The same goes for Brook Lopez or Stephen Adams. Miles Turner is a great option. Nick Claxton isn’t too bad either.

The Lakers’ playoff struggle highlighted their vulnerability without reliable RIM protection. Their offseason decision between conservative additions and aggressive moves will determine the competitiveness of the championship next season.
