Athletics David Ornstein reports on Liverpool reaching an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen on the relocation of Florian Wiltz.
Ornstein posted to X on his official account to confirm that the Reds have finally reached an oral agreement with Leverkusen. Wirtz is currently undergoing his medical care and is planning to complete his transition to Anfield.
For Ornstein’s post on German attacks regarding the move of German attack midfielders to Liverpool, see below…
Ornstein said:Liverpool attacks an oral agreement with Bayer Leberkusen to sign Florian Wiltz. Documents drafted in a transaction worth £100 million. 22YO Get medical care before completing your move from German playmaker #bayer04 In #LFC Regarding the expected five-year contract. ”
This has also been backed up by BBC Sport and other outlets, suggesting that Liverpool sources are now willing to leak this to believe it depends on all trades.
How does Florian Wurtz fit in Liverpool?
Wirtz is the signature of a big name arriving in Liverpool with a reputation as being one of the best young players in football in the world.
So, where does the 22-year-old fit on the side of Arne Slot, who already includes many offensive talents?
Wirtz might fill in with a few different positions, but for Leverkusen he’s pretty much a 10-number, he’s centrally superior.
Whoscored’s stats show that Wirtz played 30 games in its mid-central offensive position, earning 13 goals and 11 assists in that role.
Still, he played in the left flank, right flank, and, albeit much less frequently, deeper central mid-part roles.
Changes to the formation to help Liverpool respond to Wirtz?
Liverpool’s current 4-3-3 formation has not left Wirtz’s same central role, so it could mean that Slot will change the system so Wirtz can fit in and play the best football.
Or perhaps the Dutch tactician feels that, perhaps, could win more roles in another role, as the Colombian ace is linked to Barcelona by the likes of Athletic.
