The Philadelphia 76ers are bolstering their activities ahead of what could be a vital offseason for them.
The Philadelphia 76ers have done a lot of work to do this offseason. The 2024-25 season was the season they wanted to be competitive.
This is why the 76ers went all out to sign a massive deal with Paul George. But George’s injury problem once again raised an ugly head.
Rookie Jared McCain had an impressive season, but he felt the same fate as George. In addition to concerns about Joel Embiid’s massive injury, the 76ers finished 13th in the season in the East with a 24-58 record.
The silver lining in this horrifying situation was the 76ers, who landed the third overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. The 76ers draft history is muddy at best, but it’s really hard to get it wrong in this year’s draft class.
However, there appears to be no guarantees surrounding the NBA Draft’s 76ers plan.
What potential deals are the 76ers considering? Ahead of the 2025 NBA Draft, we’ve put together all the latest Intels on the 76ers’ plans.
One of the main routes the 76ers are taking appears to be about to rise in the draft. The 76ers discussed potential trade with the Spurs. This allowed us to acquire a second overall pick and abandon the third overall asset and some assets.
When things got up, both sides just gave a lecture. The trustworthy insider Ary goes to in X added that there are still no indications that trade is still happening.
“The Philadelphia 76ers are actually involved with the Spurs on their second pick, but there is no traction for the deal at this point.
If the 76ers want to get a #2 pick, they face competition. Sam’s Friend The New Orleans Pelican also reports that it is interested in rising through trade.
“A source from one league told Hoops Wire they heard that Joe Dumars, the new Pelican head of basketball operations, is already calling the Spurs about what it takes to move to No. 2.”
If this move were to come true, it would probably be to allow Rutgers’ outstanding Dylan Harper to land. However, considering Harper plays the same position as Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain and Quentin Grimes, this may not be the smartest move as he is three of the 76ers’ best players.
But what if the 76ers choose not to trade up and actually trade down instead? Ary reported that Brooklyn’s net is considering approaching the 76ers of the third overall pick and is considering taking on a massive deal for Paul George in return.
“Source: The Brooklyn Nets have internal discussions about their travel in the draft and are open to getting the No. 3 pick from Philadelphia by including assets and will be willing to take on Paul George’s long-term pay in the trade.”
“Brooklyn is open to this scenario and has internal discussions about it, but league sources say it’s unclear whether Philadelphia will entertain such a deal, including the No. 3 pick and Paul George’s contract.”
Brooklyn Net is one of the teams expected to trade before the NBA Draft. And after hopes of trading with the overall pick of #2 have been destroyed, they may target the next best option.
However, Ary made it clear that the Nets didn’t want to abandon their eighth overall pick. Rather, they want an additional lottery pick with Cameron Johnson, as they revelled their #19, #26, and #27 picks. However, the possibility of trading the eighth pick is not out of question.
In every transaction, the 76ers demand an eighth overall pick. It’s hard to see them give up lottery picks for three picks outside the lottery.
But Paul George’s latest is that the 76ers intend to keep him and to bring it to full health with him.
The 76ers are engaged in trade talks over the #3 pick, but for the time being they’re trucking together. According to Jake Fisher, the team is scheduled to meet Ace Bailey and VJ Edge.com.
“Last week, we first reported how Philadelphia went to private training for Baylor freshman VJ Edge.com., and during the day, we reported that the Six had scheduled Rutgers forward ace Bailey for a visit next week.”
Bailey and Edgecom are the best shooting guards of the year, showing signs that they can play three.
But once again, the presence of Jared McCain, Quentin Grimes and Paul George was able to limit the playing time for both of them.
The Pelicans say they are about to rise in the draft, but this appears to have more impact on the 76ers than expected.
Kevin O’Connor The Pelicans have reported that they want to rise to land VJ Edgecombe from #7 and are making a move to do so.
“The league’s sources continue to cite the Pelicans as a team that is actively looking to raise the draft. Most front office executives believe Bailey is the target of new general manager Joe Dumal.”
The 76ers will need to pay attention to the Pelican activities in the coming weeks.
With so many potential routes for the 76ers to take, President Daryl Molly must be aware of the decision-making process.
After a terrible season when everything went wrong for them, the 76ers can’t afford to do something very important in the offseason.
Molly is one of the league’s most wisest executives. Not every decision he makes is a home run, but he has a strong hit percentage.
Once things stand, the 76ers are in a favorable position heading into the draft. If Morey can take advantage of the #3 pick for a better asset, he must do his best, whether it involves climbing or descending the lottery.
