According to a recent report, Manchester United has identified a lesser-known new target in their quest to find an upgrade for goalkeeper Andre Onana.

Man UTD speaks of progress to sign “one of the best strikers out there”
Manchester United is reportedly accelerating its contract to sign a new centre forward.
The Red Devils continue to try to get an agreement with Brentford to sign Brian Mbeumo this summer. United already has one bid been rejected and while the new offer is not yet in place, Sky Sports’ Flori Amlettenberg reports that United has a “verbal agreement” with Brentford over the MBEUMO deal.
However, his arrival does not stop the Red Devils from trying to sign a new striker. Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres is one of the players the club saw, but he is said to prioritize his move to Arsenal.
Therefore, United have begun to see other options, and one of the strikers they are looking at seriously is Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt.
Foot Mercato reports that United are interested in trading forwards and now the talk is on track, which is driving them off. Plettenberg also says that United are the only teams to contact Frankfurt as both Liverpool and Chelsea are keeping an eye on the player situation, so it could be a summer that seeks multiple options in a priority position.
Man Utd, eager to sign a new £34 million ace, is now a replacement for Onana
The club chief is also in the market for new goalkeepers as the Red Devils continue to see how they can improve their forward line. Man United is interested in signing Atalanta’s shot stopper Marco Carnecki, according to Italian outlet Corriere de Lacera, broadcast by sports witnesses.
The report states that the 24-year-old is “coveted” by United. Atalanta treasures the goalkeeper for 40 million euros, adding that this is around £34 million, but it lists how much United is being forced to pay Rasmus Hojlund, given that they are still on the contract until 2028 becomes difficult to negotiate.
Carnecchi joined the Academy in Atalanta in 2017 and was promoted to his first team two years later. However, he had to remain patient when it came to game time as he scored a regular shot in goal during the 2023/24 season and played 27 games in Serie A. The Italian also played nine times in the Champions League, retaining an impressive five clean sheets during that time.
His arrival at Old Trafford is heavily dependent on what happens to Onana, which links to travel from the club. It was reported a month ago that he was discussing the move to Saudi Arabia, but that move has not yet come to fruition. The 29-year-old was in Burkina Faso last week and was asked about his future under Reuben Amorim.
Onana said about his united future: “Are I leaving? I don’t know, I know!”
