The moment when Blue has finally arrived.
As announced after a 5-4 victory over the disliked rival San Francisco Giants on Sunday, Shohei Ohtani will make his debut as a pitcher for the compared to the San Diego Padres on Monday evening.
The atmosphere within the Chavez valley may rival that, although seen last year in the 2024 World Series for the Los Angeles and New York Yankees. For those of the fan base who have never seen Otani’s pitch, it’s as if the idea of him taking the mound is mythical in nature. That was one of the things people heard in his time with the angels of Anaheim, but it was not seen directly with his own eyes.
It all changes soon – and that’s what the front office has been eagerly waiting for since it involved Otani in the biggest deal in sports history over a year ago.
More news: ‘ Shohei Ohtani is likely to make a pitching debut and Padres, Dave Roberts says
After Sunday’s victory, manager Dave Roberts specifically said that Otani is likely to pitch one inning in an official introduction to the mound at Stadium. Otani has not played in major league matches since August 23, 2023.
Over the course of five years as a starting pitcher, Ohtani has compiled a 38-19 record along with a 3.01 ERA. He has only been allowed 348 hits in 481.2 innings. During this time he hit 608 batters.
There must be some perspectives introduced here. With all the injuries to the pitching staff, Otani won’t plunge into the role he is expected to pitch heavy innings. With all that in mind, the pitching staff actually appears to be in shape from a health perspective. Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow are reportedly making progress, and Emmet Sheehan could debut this week in 2025.
The most unique element of Otani being a pitcher is that he can’t officially count from a roster standpoint. So the are technically carrying one of the biggest extra pitchers in the league due to the fact that he is in his own category as a two-way player.
Even if Otani’s outing on Monday went too far, seeing him in the bumps facing major league batsmen remains a big boost. The will take months to ramp before Otani should have another playoff look.
fans think Otani is an impressive batsman in the box, wait until he flashes 100 miles of fastball per hour.
