Atletico Madrid reportedly considers Aston Villa’s French left-back Lucas Dignet as a potential transfer target for that position this summer.
The Spanish giants appear to be keen to strengthen the left side of their defense. Dignet has emerged as an alternative to Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson in that role.
Catch off side It also reports that Arsenal’s left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko is another name on Atletico’s radar.
I’m not sure exactly how this will pan out, but Fabrizio Romano has posted the following update on the official X page:
Romano said: “Atletico Madrid considers Lucas Dignet an option on the rear left if the Robertson deal doesn’t happen. Atletico would like to pay a small fee or complete the Robertson deal with a free transfer.
Will Aston Villa sell Lucas Dignet to Atletico Madrid?
I imagine the deal depends on Robertson’s situation as it appears to suggest that the Reds’ left-back is Atletico’s preferred target.
Still, it will be interesting to see if Villa agrees to sell someone like Dignet, who has been a very important player to them these days.
France International has generally had a strong career playing for large clubs such as Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Rome.
Before moving to the Villa in January 2022, Dignet also had a spell at Everton in the Premier League.
While letting go of this experienced player may be a risk, we have seen villas being forced to sell to comply with financial fair play regulations.
Douglas Lewis had a surprising departure last summer, but John Duran departed the club for Al Nasr during his January transfer period.
