McDaniels was first acquired by Angels by this past offseason Rule 5 draft.
The Rule 5 draft was signed by players who spent a considerable amount of time in the minor leagues, especially those signed in five seasons under the age of 18, who have not yet been promoted to the 40-man roster, or four seasons in the farm system of teams over the age of 19.
Not all teams make their selections in these drafts, which take place every December, but they do so that they pay $100,000 to the teams of selected players. Players will be immediately assigned to a 26-man roster and will be placed in exemptions if removed before the full season has passed.
If this happens, like with McDaniels, players will be offered to previous clubs for $50,000 when they clear the exemption.
As for Southpaw performance, he made just 10 appearances for Halos with an ERA of 5.91. He threw six strikeouts and allowed eight walks during this short stint.
In the Triple-A and the Arizona Complex League, McDaniels pitched 7.1 innings, allowing five acquired runs.
McDaniels, who played 32 Single A, High A and Double A appearances last season in the ‘ farm system, won a 3.19 ERA in 73.1 innings. He added 84 strikeouts and took 29 walks for the organization that is now back.
