Nico Rosberg believes Oscar Piastri is a “big favorite” to win this year’s Formula One World Championship after the “basin moment” at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Piastri extended his F1 Championship lead to 22 points after Randnoris’ DNF in Montreal.
The British driver crashed from the race after running behind Piastri.
Norris was faster than he was back then, but made an amateur mistake and placed a huge dent in his hopes for a Formula 1 title.
After a race in Canada on Sunday, Rosberg explained why Piastri is so popular to win the title.
“It was a fork there for me,” Rosberg said.
“I think it’s the first time for me to say that Oscar Piastri has become a huge favorite to win the championship this year. So far, I’ve never said that before. In fact, I’ve always been by the Rando side.
“I just want him to clean things up, have that little edge and speed, and he’s going to take it home.
“But Oscar is very strong. He’s always bringing zero mistakes. I’ve seen one mistake from him over the past two years in Melbourne’s most frightening condition (Australian Grand Prix this year).
Rosberg reveals Mark Weber Insight
Mark Webber, the winner of the Red Bull Formula 1 race, is Piastri’s manager and has played a major role in the impressive Formula 1 career of McLaren drivers up until now.
Piastri’s constructed personality and ability to shrug a poor weekend are key features that allowed Norris to dominate in 2025.
“I told Mark Weber, my former fiancé to Williams, the manager of Oscar, that he said he had the same state of mind, either finishing first or fifth in the evening, or having pizza,” explained Rosberg.
“Of course there’s great excitement after the race, but that’s over and we’re going ahead. It’s very solid.”
