When discussing Duke’s outlook in the 2025 NBA Draft, the name of Cooper Flag automatically comes to mind.
Flagg is probably the number one pick and will ultimately be in Dallas. This isn’t surprising given that he not only gave great performances, but also broke many records during his college career.
But Duke can place another prospect in the top 10. The NBA Analytics Mock Draft 2025 suggests that the Blue Devils have multiple lottery talent beyond the headline star.
And Kaman Malah, compared to Joel Embiid, is not the outlook for the second duke generating buzz. Probably draft premier shooter Kon Knueppel brings attention from NBA scouts.
Sharpshooter recently appeared on the Bill Simmons podcast to discuss his professional aspirations. Knuppel set an ambitious target for his NBA career.
“That’s great (to have a Klay type career). If you’re a shooting game, I’ve always tried to play, just like everyone wants to play,” explained Knupel.
“He was also a great defensive player before his injury and before he got older.”
Klay Thompson opened up legendary positions during his tenure with the Golden State Warriors. His partnership with Stephen Curry created the iconic “Splash Brothers” duo, which won four championships.
Thompson’s precision shooting and defensive versatility made him invaluable. The success of the Warriors was centered around superior capabilities without controlling ownership.
Knuppel recognizes the similarities between his Duke’s role and the influence of Thompson’s warriors. Both players thrived during operation behind the team’s major stars.
Duke’s system, centered around Cooper Flag, taught Cnoupel’s important lessons to maximize effectiveness. The sophomore guard focused on developing skills beyond natural shooting abilities.
“When I learned how to influence the game when the ball is not in your hands or when you’re not the number one guy and learn about myself that I can still be an effective player,” Knupel shared.
His versatility exceeds the surrounding fire. Knueppel launches attacks and can adapt to a variety of team systems.
“I tend to have a bit of a versatile skill set beyond filming, not just filming, and I can play on any team as long as I can shoot the ball so I can shoot on the court anywhere,” he pointed out.
The NBA Analysis will be projecting Knoupel Landing in 8th place overall with Brooklyn Net. However, his draft range can be expanded from third to eighth depending on the team’s needs.
The Philadelphia 76ers, the Charlotte Hornets, the Utah Jazz, the Washington Wizard and the Pelicans of New Orleans represent potential destinations. Each franchise may benefit from Knueppel’s shooting ability and basketball IQ.
The next Klay Thompson might come out of Duke’s program.
