A new body cam video has been released from the Albuquerque Police Station. This includes John Jones’ voice over the phone.
On Saturday, MMA Fighting confirmed a report from the Albuquerque Journal that Jones was accused of leaving the scene of the accident (no major physical harm or death). The misdemeanor claim stems from the February 24th incident.
The Albuquerque Journal obtained body cam footage from the scene following the accident. You can see it in the video above.
The edited video shows a woman handing her cell phone to a police officer. When the scene’s officer asks the individual to identify themselves, the male voice is heard in other lines. The woman says, “He was the one driving the car,” before saying over the phone, “It’s John Jones.”
The phone man, who is said to be Jones, slurped his words, looked drunk, and called on officers for backup after “creating a statement implying his ability to adopt deadly forces through third parties.”
Individuals are also heard in a video saying, “My Brothers: They Kill People Less.” As the video continues, a man who bodycam executives say confidently that Jones is telling another executive speaks with a woman in the passenger seat who says she owns the card. The woman is visibly upset and replies that she is called “I don’t know what f*ck you’re talking about, my car is shipwreck,” and then says the driver is Jones.
Jones’ lawyers issued a statement Monday to MMA Fighting, who said that Albuquerque police had accused Jones in the case, “unsettled.”
Before the incident was made public, UFC CEO Dana White informed Jones of the promotion of his retirement, revealing that he is no longer the UFC heavyweight champion. Tom Aspinol has also been promoted to the indisputable champion from interim.
Jones’ next court hearing will be July 24th.
