It was the 2025 season for Los Angeles star Mookie Betts. Betts became himself as the starting a short stop, but he has struggled to maintain the same greatness this year in the batter’s box.

At the start of the 2025 campaign, Betts endured stomach illness and lost nearly 20 pounds. He missed the ‘ two-game set with the Chicago Cubs at Tokyo Dome, kicked off the year and flew home from Japan early to recover for the domestic residential opening game.

Betts returned to the lineup without missing a beat, hitting a walk-off home run despite losing nearly 20 pounds. However, after a short hot streak, the 32-year-old fell into a slump.

Almost half the way through the season, Betts is once again in another offensive blunder. Shortstop was sidelined with broken toes at the end of May, but returned to the lineup on another hot two-week stretch.

Since then, Betts’ productions have not been on par with it as they were hit with a low .162 in their final 10 games before this week’s sweep. Betts recorded his first multi-hit game in a series opener with the Rockies since June 7th.

Heading into Friday’s game against the Kansas City Royals, Betts hit .256, hitting with a .335-on-base percentage and a slugging rate of 0.392. The star currently has an average career low in all three offensive categories.

Despite Betts’ offensive struggle, manager Dave Roberts said he won’t move the star from second place in the lineup. Betts ultimately breaks his slump, but when it remains a mystery.
