Mercedes Totowolf warns Ferrari that it won't get better

Mercedes boss Totowolf says Ferrari needs to give the fire team principal Fred Vaserre time because “they won’t get any better.”

After the Italian outfit finished runner-up in last year’s Constructors’ Championship, the high expectations and excitement surrounding Ferrari as they headed for the 2025 F1 season signed Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes in the winter.

However, Ferrari’s season has been disappointing and overwhelming so far, with the team unable to compete for victory, and seven-time world champion Hamilton has struggled to grasp the SF-25.

Vasseur has faced criticism from Italian fans and the media as a result, and rumors have recently emerged about Ferrari considering making a change. Such reports were condemned by Vasseur, but drivers Hamilton and Charles Leclerc vehemently defended the team’s boss.

Now, Mercedes’ counterpart Wolf cried out the French, urging the need for patience and stability at Ferrari.

“In Formula 1, you can’t buy time. You need to give senior leaders time to get to the top of things,” Wolf told media, including Austrian Grand Prix Crash.Net.

“Jean Todt joined the team (Ferrari) in 1993, if I’m not wrong. They won their first championship in 2000. 8 years.

“Look at us. We don’t enjoy being in the stage where we haven’t fought for the championship for the third year in a row. We’re not of any use. We’re having a really good weekend. We win races. It’s admirable at times.

“And when it’s not good, no one is asking if the top guys are doing a good job.

“Leave him some space. Let him. Let him form an organization that doesn’t grasp from day one. Loic is six or seven months.

Wolf continued to insist that he would hire Vassar without hesitation if he needed an alternative to the Mercedes team boss role.

“Fred is one of the best racing managers I know. If I’m not here, I’ll take Fred with me,” Wolf added.

“So I admire him a lot. He’s a great character. He’s an outspoken guy. He’s not lying in politics, he knows what he’s talking about.

“He’s completely aware that in Italy he’s like managing the national football team and you’ll be scrutinized by the media.

“Maybe it’s something you need to develop a bit of thick skin (for) because if he wins, he is Jesus Christ, and if you lose, you are the loser.

“That’s Italy’s presence, and that’s great. That’s the passion there, and you have to embrace it, and that might be something he needs to learn.

“But he should be given the confidence to run this team. They’re not going to get any better.”
