Alex Albon hopes that Max Verstappen’s advantage over his teammates will shrink when he leaves Red Bull.
Verstappen is deeply connected to the switch to Mercedes in the near future.
Media Day at the British Grand Prix was dominated by speculation about Verstappen’s future.
George Russell and Kimi Antonelli seem to be sure they will stay at Mercedes.
Verstappen refused to elaborate on his current situation, noting that he is on a contract with Red Bull until the end of 2028.
The Dutch dominated the sport in recent seasons, winning four consecutive driver titles.
He has also dominated all of his teammates since Daniel Ricciardo left Red Bull at the end of 2018.
Pierre Guthrie, Albon, Sergio Perez, Liam Lawson and the now-good-going Hornda have been dismantled by Verstappen.
Guthrie was fired midway through 2019 after Albon was dropped at the end of 2020, while delaying Verstappen’s delay.
Verstappen whited up Thai drivers in qualifying and placed Albon on the sidelines for the entire year 2021.
Albon’s Bold Verstappen Prediction
The Red Bull car is claimed to be made to suit Verstappen’s driving style.
As a result, the gap between Verstappen and his teammates was exaggerated.
Guthrie and Albon rebuilt their reputation after leaving Red Bull, but Lawson looked comfortable when they returned to RB.
Albon thinks Verstappen is still very fast, but there is no chance of any benefit to enjoying it with Red Bull.
“In Formula 1, it’s easy for everyone to fall into a trap. “All drivers are always on the same level and are either suitable for cars or not,” he told the BBC’s Checkered Flag Podcast.
“And I think you just flipped the script and put Max in another car for the same reason you see so many drivers struggling with Max. I think he’s still very fast, so don’t get me wrong about that.
“And for the same reason, some drivers click, some not. I remember my first lap at Williams.
“And remember that my six-month stint at Toro Rosso at the time was also powerful. And it just sways.”
