New York Knicks Mike Brown’s new coaching rental has split the NBA community.
After losing to the Indiana Pacers in the conference final, the New York Knicks decided to fire head coach Tom Thibodeau.
The team attempted to take over the role by recruiting Jason Kidd and Imewdoka, but was denied permission from the team to interview them.
This made the franchise decide to bring in two coaches for Mike Brown for an interview.
After the final round with owner James Dolan, Brown was given a job, and many have since expressed their opinion on the appointment.
Many people supported employment, including Paul Pierce, but former NBA player Kendrick Perkins had a unique opinion that Brown was given the role.
There were many question marks about the Knicks entering the playoffs as their record for a better team in the Eastern Conference wasn’t that good.
However, they leveled up in the postseason and played well to reach the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Knicks were lost there to the Pacers, and some of their weaknesses were exposed there.
One of them was the defensive capabilities of Karl Anthony Towns, which the Pacers benefited.
Perkins shared that Brown’s hiring as a coach would not only help Kat, but also help star guard Jalen Branson defensively.
Speaking about The Road Trippin Podcast, he said: “I think Mike Brown will come in and catch the ears in that locker room. Mike Brown believes he will hold the guy responsible.
“Mike Brown believes he will do his best defensively because it needs to happen.
“You have to be accountable to those people. If you’re Jalen Branson, the town of Karl Anthony accepts the noise. Anyone, whether it’s me, hear the noise and react to the noise.
The town is one of the best shooting bigs in the NBA, but what he lacks is his defensive IQ, often a big problem for the Knicks.
Charles Barkley called him constantly into foul trouble, a trend he’s been following players throughout his career.
He has all the attributes of the center, but he doesn’t have the quickness to protect him with paint.
Perkins, who was one of the best rim protectors in his time in the league, suggested that the town would cut 15 pounds and work on itself to improve defensively.
“The town of Karl Anthony, if I were you, I would lose about 15 pounds. A boy 15 pounds, you will stay consistent from 15 pounds from your peers, it will be smoke, you are ready!” he added.
