Man United need a new striker this summerOllie Watkins can solve goalscoring problems for Ruben Amorim

Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has encouraged the club to make the move for Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins as he is trying to bolster his offensive options this summer.

Ex-England International believes Watkins can provide the need for cutting-edge unity to take the next step under Ruben Amorim.

Amorim and his recruiting team are fully aware that United will need more firepower to challenge key honours of the future.

Matheus Cunha is already on board from the wolves and discussions are underway with Brentford regarding the Bryan Mbeumo deal, but Old Trafford has a clear focus on adding strikers that can deliver consistently at the top level.

After a poor performance from Rasmus Hozilund, who joined the club from Atalanta two seasons ago, there is a growing need for new strikers at Old Trafford.

Parker said to the goal: “I have to say yes. He’s honest. He’s a workaholic. I felt strange how players play in front of him at Aston Villa.

“I’m an Ollie Watkins fan. People talk about his age, but he’s someone who wants to run the line and someone who tries to score goals for good people.

“He’s very strong in the air and he can lead the line. This is a huge plus for Man UTD, as he never had it last season. The blind man would have been better.”

Watkins emerged as a name worth considering following the impressive spell at Aston Villa.

The 29-year-old also shows the mentality he needs to function under pressure, not just for the Premier League villa, but also for the England national team.

Aston Villa reportedly is seeking £60 million from the English international attackers this summer.

Linked to several strikers this summer, Watkins looks like the most likely addition to United at the moment, as well as the Premier League experience is a key factor and what Amorim wants to have with his team.

Former villa manager Dean Smith praised Watkins for calling him “selfless.”
