The Washington Wizard made some major moves in the offseason as part of a rebuild of the roster
As a result, the franchise has players such as CJ McCollum and Cam Whitmore on the roster.
They already had things like Khris Middleton and Marcus Smart, but the organization added more talented players in the offseason to make it look like an interesting team heading into the 2025-26 season.
When it seemed the Washington Wizards had made all the moves, they traded Kelly Olinik for Blake Wesley, Malaki Branham and the San Antonio Spurs for the 2026 second round pick.
Both players the Wizard added in the Olynyk deal are security guards. This is a move that former NBA players were not supporting due to the wide range of talent they already had in the backcourt.
Last season, Wizard finished last in the Eastern Conference with just 18 wins.
They didn’t have much power in the backcourt as Smart and Malcolm Brogdon were injured in many games.
This has made the team decide to introduce many acquisitions in the offseason, but former NBA player Jeff Teague believes he’s been overloaded a bit on the backcourt.
Speaking about his podcast, Teague said: “Did you see the deal they made, they added two more security guards.
“I don’t know the direction. I want to talk to someone from the Wizards organization and ask them what are they going to do, security guards 6, 7, 8.
“And they’re all young. I don’t like what they happened.”
Teague’s criticism of Teague’s backcourt makes sense, but they are the aspects they suffered due to injuries and need the backup they need to compete.
In addition to all the deals, the team also selected Tre Johnson in the draft. He was one of the most talented security guards in the NCAA tournament.
He was a great scorer and shot 39% from Texas’ three-point range. If he can bring the same momentum into the league, Johnson will be a player to watch out for.

Veterans like Smart, McCollum and Middleton are also good for wizards as all three are part of a good team.
They can bring the same culture to the wizards and become role models for the young people on their team.

Wizard has been a disappointing franchise in the past few seasons, but is now set to run a good campaign.
If players on the roster fit and the youngster deliver, they could become a team that can compete for the playoffs.
