However, according to Fabrizio Romano, another name that is constantly being promoted on the move to Old Trafford is Brentford star Brian Mbeumo.
He claims the Red Devils are in discussions to land the 25-year-old’s signature this summer, and the transfer is expected to be completed by next weekend.
The journalist also states that despite the delay, the Cameroonians only want to move to the theatre of their dreams, but his £65 million ask price must meet any agreement.
Why United’s £65 million target will be better signed than Watkins
There cannot be denied that Watkins will be a great option for United this summer. His goal scores have important capabilities in the Premier League in the hunt for the club’s success.
The British registered 75 top flight goals for UNAI Emery’s side, breaking records and becoming the highest scorer ever in the competition.
But as mentioned earlier, he would sacrifice a considerable penny if the country’s amulets always order a higher price tag, as would be expected from British strikers.
Although he cannot deny his goalscoring ability, at age 29, he has undoubtedly been at the back end of his career at the top level, and there is no resale value from their big money investments.
As a result, Mbeumo will be a better option for this window’s Red Devils.

He also potentially has the tools to register higher aggregations of progressive and key paths per 90, providing other attackers with the opportunity to improve their aggregations.
The Brentford star was even more impressed with a higher take-on success rate, but then increased the carry to the final third. He has the ability to flourish with the ball.
£605 million may seem like a huge sum, but it passes additional threats while offering better options than fellow transfer target Watkins.
If he can replicate his form at Old Trafford, Mbeumo would certainly be an important addition.
