Team India Batter Virat Kohli became the first cricketer in history, crossing all three formats of the international cricket game, surpassing the 900-point mark in the ICC rankings. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revised Kohli’s career-high T20I rating from 897 to 909.

Virat Kohli retired from Test and T20I cricket. He announced the resignation of the T20I after India won the ICC T20 World Cup in June 2024. Before India’s tour of England began, the veteran batsman also confirmed his exit from Test cricket. Kohli is currently available only for single day internationals.

Virat Kohli recently became a trending topic online after an unexpected revision of the T20I rating from 897 to 909 by the ICC. Kohli has not played Blue In Blue T20I matches for more than a year. This update in the rankings has surprised many fans.

However, this is part of the ICC routine revision process, reevaluating past match data and adjusting player ratings accordingly. Based on re-evaluated data and updated methodology, this could lead to an increase or decrease in the highest player’s career ratings.

Kohli’s revised T20I rating may have come after one such ICC review. The right-hander became the first cricketer to surpass the 900-point mark in all three formats: Test, ODI and T20I.

Virat Kohli’s updated T20I rating for 909 came third in the ICC’s all-time high T20I ranking, after Dawid Malan (919) and Suryakumar Yadav (912). Kohli is one of India’s chosen players who scored over the centuries in Test, ODI and T20I.

The 36-year-old cricketer was named Cricketer of the Year in 2017 and 2018, earning numerous ICC accolades, including winning both the Test and the ODI Cricketer of the Year awards.

Kohli has won the T20 World Cup, the ODI World Cup and two ICC Champions Trophies. He is fourth in the 736-point ICC ODI batting ranking. Kohli retired from Test Cricket in May 2025. He played 123 games and averaged 9,230 runs in the 30th century and in his 50s, averaging 46.85.

Kohli was last seen during his IPL 2025, helping Royal Challenger Bengaluru (RCB) win the Punjab Kings (PBK) in the final to secure the Maiden title.

India is scheduled to tour Australia in October with a three-match ODI and a five-match T20I series. Kohli, who continues to work with ODIS, is expected to be featured in the team, with Rohit Sharma currently leading the side in this format.

Following his test and retirement from the T20IS, Kohli has a chance to boost his ODI rankings. The Delhi-born batsman averaged 48.69 and recorded 4,188 runs in 125 games, with a strike rate of 137.04.

Kohli scored 9,230 runs in 123 Tests on an average of 46.35 including the 30th century. He has scored over 14,000 runs in ODIs, including 5100.
