Former Denver Nuggets star Russell Westbrook appeared at the 2025 ESPY Awards Show.
Every year since 1993, ESPN has held ESPY Awards shows, recognizing figures and achievements from major sports.
Another important factor attracts the audience is that fan favorites show the humorous side. Well, former Denver Nuggets star Russell Westbrook tried that in the 2025 ESPYS, but the move backfired him.
Registering a triple double is always an incredible feat of hardwoods. Westbrook knows one or two things as he is the NBA’s greatest triple double leader of all time.
However, during ESPYS in 2025, Westbrook was called on the stage to honor NBA legend Oscar Robertson with Arthur Ash’s Courage Award. With his brief appearance, Westbrook made a controversial statement.
“I may be biased, but I don’t think there’s anything cool in a basketball game to get a triple double. Like I said, I might be biased, but that’s just me.”
Russ was clearly joking, but he faced major flacks from NBA fans as he claims he is “cool” as much as notching a triple double.
“I think it’s cool to get a championship,” the fans wrote. Another was added, but “Because he’s never had a championship.”
“So you’re playing the NBA and you’re coming out of the NBA,” the third fan added.
“Yeah, check out. A guy will get a triple double than win the game,” fans realized.
“Did you win? Lol?” asked one of the confused fans.
Fans obviously got mad at Westbrook and dragged the lack of an NBA championship into the mud. Still, one thing cannot be denied. Westbrook is a triple double king.
After all, Westbrook has a 203 triple double in his name, but NBA history players have not violated the 190 mark.
After a solid year with the Nuggets, Westbrook shockedly opted out of player options for the 2025-26 NBA season.
Since then, Russ has been linked to multiple NBA teams. However, the most talked about destination for the previous NBA MVP was the Bucks in Milwaukee.
Even Kendrick Perkins wants Westbrook to play for the Bucks. There is a simple reason behind it. The Bucks have abandoned Damien Lillard.
With Lillard’s departure, the Bucks need veteran security guards who can lead the team, including Giannis Antetocomo and Miles Turner.
