Arsenal now wants to get Viktor Gyoker involved as soon as possible
We are finally reaching the end of Viktor Gyokeres Saga.
Arsenal and Sport now agree on the exact terms of the transaction, with Arsenal set to pay the Swedish striker a €63.5 million plus an additional €10 million add-on.
That agreement was in place between the two clubs for some time, but the fixed points were at the centre of how those add-ons would reach.
A compromise was finally agreed on Tuesday, and Gyoker was expected to receive medical care soon before completing his move to Arsenal.
There was a proposal that medical care would be provided in Singapore, where Arsenal is currently based on its pre-season Asian tour.
Although we cannot confirm that it is correct at this stage, the club knows that if an agreement is reached with the sport, Gyoker has plans to ensure that they can join the team as soon as possible.
They always wanted him to play some role on the tour and be prepared for this exact contingency, so I fully expect him to link with the team before he flies home.
He obviously won’t be featured against Milan in Arsenal’s first game, and Sunday’s Newcastle match could be a push. However, it has been said that Arsenal has always wanted him to be available for the Hong Kong portion of the tour.
It would clearly be a big boost for the club to surpass this contract.
It took longer than I expected, but I have no doubts about it. Mikel Arteta would have been sure he wanted to join Gyoker towards the start of the preseason.
But it was clearly a complicated transaction to get it done and negotiations were not easy.
So, there’s no dramatic late hiccups, but signing this signature via the line is a huge boost for the club during the relatively early summer.
Putting a striker is a top priority. It’s a transaction that everyone has been waiting for.
So it’s a massive effort to get it done, and Arteta hopes Gyoker will settle down soon and run ahead of Old Trafford’s opening Premier League fixture to hit the ground.
Alexander Isaac has never looked realistic for Arsenal, but what about Liverpool?
There was a lot of talk about Alexander Isaac when news came out among Arsenal fans that Liverpool had officially contacted Newcastle about the striker.
I know Isak was always at the top of Mikel Arteta’s list. If he clicked his finger this summer to bring a striker to him, it would have been a striker in Newcastle.
But in reality, it wasn’t a deal that would make it realistic for Arsenal. They knew it, so there was no point in wasting time exploring it.
Given the amount of extra they wanted to make, they didn’t have the ability to put a number of kinds of things they would have even thought up the sale in Newcastle.
Whether Liverpool is still not visible. Given the money spent on Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, you’d think that’s not the case, but it’s the way the champions spend in moments that don’t rule it out.
However, Arsenal just didn’t run to ISAK this summer.
If Newcastle didn’t qualify for the Champions League, they might have had a small chance, but it’s still doubtful.
The finances involved were too big. Spending that amount on one player made it extremely difficult to strengthen other areas of the team that needed stuffing.
Ethan Nuwaneri signed a new contract after several false claims were made
The good news is that Ethan Nwaneri continues to put pens on paper for his new contract for Arsenal.
The imminent arrival of Viktor Gyokeres has grabbed headlines, but it is equally important that Nwaneri, in my opinion, commits his long-term future to the club.
Arsenal has always been very calm about Nuwaneri’s situation, but the remaining year of his old deal was a problem that needed to be resolved.
Chelsea were just as interested as before Nuwaneri signed his first professional contract with the club in March 2024.
At the time, it really looked like Nuwaneri was leaving. In fact, Arsenal had many people who believed his decision was made and he would go.
However, he chose to stay and reject both Chelsea and Manchester City’s progress.
Things didn’t close that much this time. There may have been a strong interest, but Nuwaneri’s preference was always to stay at Arsenal, and the club was sure he would always stay.
There have been some suggestions that he is making requests over his playing time, but that has been defied. That wasn’t the case.
He played more games last season than anyone would have expected, and this time he’ll get more opportunities.
And that’s a really exciting outlook for Arsenal fans.
Arsenal will focus on selling players, but may not be done with new signatures yet
Once Gyokeres’ trade is confirmed, I think if Arsenal’s attention shifts in the market, they’ll try to win some players.
The team is a bit bulky now, but a few players are clearly struggling for a few minutes next season.
So Arsenal is looking to sort out some outgoing for players like Fabio Vieira, Sambi Loconga, Reese Nelson and possibly Olexandr Zinchenko.
However, I feel there is room for another new addition before the window closes. There’s still a long time left in the market, but if Arsenal were still trying to do something it doesn’t shock me.
They know they are looking for an offensive role option on its left, as they believe Eberechi Eze, Rodrygo and Anthony Gordon are interested.
Whether Nwaneri’s New Deal will stop something I don’t know is that it really should.
Nuwaneri is a much more right-hand option, whether it’s on the wings or a more central role run by Martin Odegard.
So my view is there space for the new left side options and I really think this team needs a new arrival there.
I think Madueke is a real option to play left and left from time to time, so considering Gabriel Martinelli is still around, I’m not the view that it has to be an out-and-out winger.
I think it’s perfect for someone like Eze, who can play widely if needed, but can add another creative option to the central area.
If Arsenal could get him, it would definitely be a cherry on top of a very good window.
