Stephen Curry commented on the NBA salary status that applies to Jonathan Cuminga and the Golden State Warriors.
The Golden State Warriors have not made much decisions regarding Jonathan Kuminga. The young forward is still waiting for the team.
Kuminga wants to leave to pursue All-Star ambitions. During his time with the Warriors, he hasn’t gotten that many opportunities to play.
However, he has not received offers from a free agency. The Warriors then closed their sign-and-trade with the King of Cuminga.
The Warriors plan to bring Kuminga back to a short-term deal, but will replace him before the deadline. However, Warriors fans don’t like this plan for Kuminga.
As things stand, the Warriors’ free agency is held up by Kuminga. And Stephen Curry’s recent comments on NBA pay suggest that there is a reason for this.
Stephen Curry recently interviewed Complex. When discussing the recent trend of NBA players entering into fewer contracts, Curry explained how the new CBA had an impact.
Curry now believes that the team is in a difficult position to pay players what they want. However, he adds that the CBA will need to be changed so that players can just pay.
“We can’t participate fairly as the way the CBA is now constructed. It’s a partnership with the league and we’re short-term in revenue, right?
“Those numbers sound crazy, but maybe ten times what the league is doing since the time you want to compare it.
“The idea that we can’t participate fairly while we play is part in the reason I say yes, and we are low pay because you want to be able to participate in that rise.
“We know we are blessed to be in a position where we play basketball to make a living, and these are the types of checks that people are making money on.
“It’s a special product so it’s worth it all, and it’s a special industry that probably doesn’t go anywhere because it’s worth its entertainment.
“But yeah, I hope those rules change a little, so that players can take part in team equity, league ratings and the benefits of all that.
The situation mentioned above is where Jonathan Cuminga is experiencing with the Golden State Warriors.
Cuminga hopes to make around $30 million per season on his next contract. However, due to the new CBA, the salary cap is very strict and it is difficult to make such money unless you are the maximum level player.
This is also why the Warriors haven’t re-signed Kuminga yet, and why other teams haven’t come close to offerings to him.
Because of its value, Warriors players are hoping to return to Cuminga next season. But for some reason, Steve Kerr doesn’t consider him a starting level player.
Hopefully, both parties will soon agree to a new deal and resolve this situation. The longer this gets, the off-rails of Kuminga’s career will become, and the Warriors will look bad.
