Former Sri Lankan batsman Kaushal Silva has been appointed as the new men’s head coach of the Hong Kong National Cricket team. Sri Lanka will make his first major outing as an international coach in the upcoming Asian Cup 2025.

The Asian Cup 2025 will be held in the window in September after there was a lot of opposition from several cricket committees and sparked tensions of doubt within the Asian Cricket Council members. However, after the ACC’s annual meeting was restrained on July 24th, a formal decision was made at the 2025 Asian Cup.

One of the main opponents of the Continental Championship was the host country, India and its cricket committee, BCCI. However, citing several reasons and the opportunity to host the 2036 Olympics, they reconsidered their decision alongside the Indian government.

“Kaushal’s dedication to developing talent and developing it resonates with our vision for the future of cricket in Hong Kong. Under his guidance, we can not only increase our competitive position, but also promote sports within our community.”

Meanwhile, Kaushal Silva has also revealed his plans as a coach. “The focus is on instilling a strong work ethic and victory mentality among senior teams, identifying and nurturing fresh talent for continued growth.”

Kaushal Silva previously played coaching roles in Sri Lanka, the UK and Australia, marking his first major outing in international cricket as a 39-year-old coach.
