Fabrizio Romano explained why Newcastle United are having trouble with the transfer period this summer despite strong performances in recent years.
Eddie Howe is widely seen as doing a great job at St. James Park, bringing in top players and making the club more competitive.
Newcastle returned to the Champions League next season, qualifying twice in the last three seasons, winning the Carabao Cup final last season, and finishing a decades-long trophy drought.
Still, Romano feels there are problems at this stage of development as many people are considered to be something like a “stepping stone” club.
But they haven’t actually made that many major sales so far. This means that players may be postponed from finding themselves in situations like Alexander Isaac.
Fabrizio Romano on Newcastle United’s transfer issue
“I think there’s an important point here. Newcastle is always signing a lot of players and bringing top players to the club, but it’s hard to see Newcastle selling players,” Romano told the Blazers man.
“And some players who are younger and probably want to develop in a different way may be scared to go to Newcastle and may not have the opportunity to leave the club in two or three years.
“So, I think Alexander Isaac will be the opportunity for Newcastle to show that. Yes, sometimes you have to sell your players too. You can’t always keep everything.
“So I think this is one of the points. Players may have to stay there for five years, so it can be scary for players to go there. And in modern football, some of them want to leave in a few years.”
Can Newcastle make money by selling Alexander Isaac?
Romano mentions Isaac, who wants to join Liverpool.
In fact, could Newcastle convince more players to join if he sends Isaac to Liverpool?
This will clearly be a dream move for Swedish internationals. He will feel he has his own bit to help move this project forward.
Certainly, did Isak embrace this big move and get the opportunity to leave the NUFC with huge amounts of money to spend on his successor?
