The New York Knicks are pushing for important employment to the coaching staff, who previously played a major role in LeBron James’ career.
After firing Tom Thibodeau, the team went on a coach search for nearly a month, eventually appointing former coach of the year Mike Brown.
Since being featured as a coach for the New York Knicks, Brown has been busy adding names to his coaching staff.
Former LA Clippers assistant coach Brendan O’Connor also appeared as a candidate to join Brown’s team.
Another familiar name around the NBA circle is also appearing now, and he was once LeBron James’ personal shooting coach.
Chris Gent has been an NBA assistant since 2003 for teams such as the Philadelphia 76ers, Orlando Magic and La Lakers.
He also recently joined the Charlotte Hornets, who won a Summer League title with stars like Kon Knupel.
Gent also played a key role in the career of four-time NBA champion James, serving as his personal shooting coach.
Akron’s child has struggled with his shooting in the past, and one such opportunity was in the NBA Finals with the San Antonio Spurs in 2007.
James shot under 25% from the 3-point range. This proved to be one of the reasons behind the 4-0 sweep in the final.
Posting the final, James worked with Gent in shooting and things began to get much better for him.
Gent was part of the Cavs coaching staff and worked for Mike Brown, but soon became James’ personal shooting coach, revealing what it was like to work with the best point scorer of all time.
He states: “As a coach, it’s been a great time for me and being with smart, calculated players. I had to be on my toes.”
Gent is currently set to become the offensive coordinator for the Knicks team that went to last season’s conference finals.
Brown’s employment was frequently discussed and many people had their own opinions about him, but as a head coach, his abilities are undoubtedly unsure.
He helped King Sacramento arrive in the playoffs after a 16-year absence and shoved the Golden State Warriors into seven games in the first round.
Their free agency signatures of Jordan Clarkson and Gerson Jabsel are also fantastic. Because both can get out of the bench to add dynamism to the roster.
Meanwhile, Gent is someone who respects around the league, so they have made a great addition to the coaching staff as well.
If all players produce great performances throughout the season and remain healthy, the Knicks could be a beat-hit team in the east.
