Liverpool was defeated in the Community Shield and began the season with a penalty heartache against Wembley’s Crystal Palace.

Liverpool and the Palace were unable to separate at normal times, so they finished 2-2, with Hugo Ekitique scoring on their debut, and Jeremy Frimont repeating the trick before repeating it.

Still, the Palace fought back twice from behind to force a penalty. Oliver Glasner’s men took off the Premier League champions 3-2.

It wasn’t the best exhibit from the men at Arne Slot. The ArneSlot men clearly have areas that need to be improved if they want to maintain the Premier League crown and advance in other major competitions.

See how Liverpool played against the palace…

Alison Becker – (6.5/10) -He is not very happy to acknowledge the two goals, but neither was Alison’s fault.

Jeremy Frimon – (7/10) -An overall rather exciting debut for Liverpool’s new right-back had a good effect on most of the match, including Chip Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson with a fantastic debut strike in the 20th minute.

Milos Types – (5.5/10) – Milos Kerquez, who was less impressive than Frimon on the opposite side, appears to be suffering from the threat of the Eagles’ right-back Daniel Munoz, limiting what he can do in the future.

Virgil Van Dijk- (3/10) – Really poor from such experienced and important players, Van Dick gave a penalty for the palace’s first goal and was caught for their second time. As the season progresses, he needs to do better. Otherwise, you might question whether Liverpool is right to award him on a new contract.

Ibrahima Conate – (6/10) – not his best performance, even if he was a bit disappointed by Van Dik, who has a characteristically bad afternoon next to him.

Curtis Jones – (6/10) – He did his best by playing a slightly unfamiliar role for the Lian Grain Bellch, but it was always rare for him to show his best qualities. Some neat passes, but often too safe as he chose to keep it simple.

Dominik Szoboszlai- (6/10) – It’s not as convincing as you would imagine Alexis Mac Alistair started. It may also have been better with the more familiar combination of Greygunbellch with him.

Florian Wirtz – (8/10) – A truly impressive debut from Wiltz, setting Hugo Echicque’s first goal, causing problems with the palace in general, and receiving special acclaim from Henry Winter.

Mohamed Sarah – (4/10) – It’s really quiet from Sarah this afternoon, and the Egyptian superstar is also missing a penalty in the shootout. Not the Sarah we saw last season, and not the kind of performance we would like to see after Liverpool worked so hard to bring him into a new contract.

Cody GA – (5/10) – One move fell apart due to insufficient delivery in the attack and insufficient decisions. He scored in the shootouts, but the LFC would want to see more from him overall.

Hugo Ekitike- (8/10) – Scored a splendid goal early on, and generally linked to the new signature Wirtz. Even if they haven’t done enough to help Liverpool win here, it’s a very promising sign of this season.

Submarines: Wataru End (6/10), Alexis Mac Alistair (5/10), Harvey Elliott N/A, Andrew Robertson N/A
