Former Indian Pacer Irfan Patan After his disastrous form in the Australian Border and Gavaskar Test Series, he shakes off the charges against him for showing excessive support in favor of Rohit Sharma.

The India-Australia border and Gabascal trophies from 2024-25 did not provide the desired results for the Indian team, but even more concern was the lack of player form.

Unlike the Anderson Tendurkar Trophy, which India had flaws but never saw its hind legs, BGT smacked the pride of Indian Red Ball legacy.

The border and Gabascal trophy humiliation marked India’s exit from the 2025 WTC final competition as defending champions Australia and South Africa advanced to the WTC 2025 final. This was the first time in three cycles when India missed qualifying for the ICC World Test Championship Final.

Irfan Pathan is away from the support of Rohit Sharma

Former Indian cricketer Irfan Patan recently posted a video to Larantop. This claimed that during the series, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was snabbed from 11 if he wasn’t the skipper on the side.

“Rohit Sharma is a great player in whiteball cricket, but he said that if he wasn’t the captain, he wouldn’t have been on the team because the average Test cricket was six that year.

After Rohit Sharma decided to drop himself from the Sydney test, he was interviewed by Irfan Pathan and Jatin Sapru. There, ICT fans accused them of being unnecessary polite to the Indian skipper and showed hostility towards not directly criticizing his presence on the Indian Test Team despite his poor form.

“People say we supported Rohit Sharma more than we need to. Of course, when someone comes to interviews on your broadcast channel, you’re not mistaken for them, right? You invited him.

“When Rohit came to the interview, we had to show it, of course, since he was our guest. We said it was connected and we were in support of him, but he said we should continue fighting, but he said we shouldn’t play Xi,” added Irfan Pathan.

“If he hadn’t been the team’s captain, he would have been dropped,” concluded Irfan Patan.

Rohit acknowledged that his form of concern in red ball cricket could raise major concerns for India

During an interview with Jatin Sapur and Irfan Patan, Rohit Sharma, an Indian Red Ball skipper at the time, decided to drop himself as the team’s chances failed to score as he had admitted in front of his previous teammates that he had not lacked form.

“This is what I say. I stand up. I say a few words. 50 words are made from it. Essentially, the run is not coming from my bat, I’m not in shape, it’s not an important match, it needs a player in form, and the boys in our batting, you can’t carry many out-of-form players in the team,” Rohit said.

After winning the ICC T20 World Cup, Sharma scored just 164 runs in eight Test matches in 2024, averaged a humiliating 6.20 in three games against the Australians in BGT.

“It was difficult for me to make this decision, but if everything was in front of us, this decision was wise and I wasn’t thinking too far ahead. This was the only idea that the team needed at this point, and there were no other ideas,” added Rohit.

Rohit ended his testing career in May 2025

After much criticism and thrashing from Indian media, sports enthusiasts, cricket experts and Indian cricket fans, Rohit Sharma decided to resign as Indian test skipper and draw the curtains for his illustrated career.

Rohit didn’t play the final Sydney Test in Australia, but he didn’t settle with his retirement plan as he returned to form in whiteball cricket and beat a run at the top to win India in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.

He officially made his test retirement during the Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2025 campaign, followed by Indian veteran Virat Kohli.
