Mark J. Spears believes he saw another sign LeBron James is approaching retirement

The NBA reporter has noticed some indications about the future of LeBron James in the NBA.

LeBron James was at the heart of the offseason debate after reporting that Shams Charania was considering leaving the Los Angeles Lakers. He has been unhappy with the Lakers’ lack of direction since trading with Russell Westbrook and wanted to pursue his fifth ring.

The NBA’s all-time scorer enters his 23rd NBA season. He is 40 years old, but showed no signs of slowing down last year. He made his 21st All-NBA selection, the All-NBA second team, and raised 24-8-8.

James appears to be set to wear a suit in LA next season, but I’ve noticed that the NBA reporters think it’s a sign that the end is near.

James recently created an inexplicable Instagram post with Anthony Davis. This read: “There are many goodbyes to being the best version of yourself.” Many took it as James recalls his time with Davis with the Lakers, but not NBA reporter Mark Spears.

Spears spoke in the NBA today and said it was one of several indications that James is approaching retirement.

He explained:

“They start golfing when they need to be competitive. Why is he starting golf now? That’s a hobby that OG takes when they don’t have to work. I’m wondering if all these tea leaves are out there.

Rumors have circulated that the NBA season could be a Kobe Bryant-style retirement tour for James as he goes to his final championship with the Lakers.

NBA reporter Dave McMenamin said James was considering retiring early in the summer.

“I think I see him as if he has a very limited time left in his career. We already knew that. Since he reached 20 years in the league, he has entered every offseason with the intention of retirement.”

James opted for the $52 million player option at the start of the offseason, but there were no talks about contract extensions beyond the summer of 2026. According to his agent Rich Paul, James is pleased with the lack of contract negotiations.

“We can enter into last year of (LeBron’s) career.” 😱

McMenamine said in July:

He continued, “The point for me at Rich Paul was that this wasn’t a point of tension. ‘That’s not something we were pursuing.'”

James appears to be unaged. One of the few sports that is immortal. But Father’s time may have come for all of us and sat down and thanked James for the greatness of us.
