  • Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy ended in a draw
  • Young Indian performances were floored – Sanjay Manjrekar
  • Was the cricket of the highest quality? No, it wasn’t – Sanjay Manjrekar

Former Indian National Cricket Team batter Sanjay Manjlekal said the quality of the cricket on display at Anderson Tendurkal Trophy 2025 is not very good.

Sanjay Manjrekar said the Indian and British bowling attacks were the “weakest” series seen in the high-profile series featuring two large teams.

Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy ended in a draw

India and England participated in the highly-prominent series by June, July and August, thoroughly entertaining their fans by playing great brands of cricket in all 25 days of play.

The players from both teams gave it all on the field and in the end the series ended with a 2-2 draw.

England started the series with a stunning five-wicket victory at Leeds Headingley before India made an incredible comeback to register a 336-run victory at Birmingham’s Edgbaston.

The thrilling third Test match at Lords in London was then won by the UK with 22 runs, and the fourth Test ended with a draw at Old Trafford in Manchester. In the fifth and final test, India sealed off a stunning six-run victory at London’s Kennington Oval.

Young Indian performances were floored – Sanjay Manjrekar

In his column in the Hindustan Times, former Indian batsman Sanjay Manjrekar said he is adored by the performance offered by the young Indian team against England. He said:

“I have to confess too. I, like you, have floored the performances of young Indians in a thorough test series of each of the five test matches that lasted five days.

“First of all, my feelings about young Indian batters remain the same. My breasts are still in the way (Yashasvi) Jaiswal, (Shubman) Gill, (kl) Rahul, (Rishabh) Pants, (Rabindra) Jadeja and even-numbered (Washington Thunder) washrooms don’t hit the laundry. Amazing.”

“And we’re not just talking about the results here… that’s how these results were achieved, and through extreme old-fashioned test batting, still leaving the ball outside with the bat, leaving the ball after the ball, the same batter from the rest of the year is about to hit a six out of all the balls.

Was the cricket of the highest quality? No, it wasn’t – Sanjay Manjrekar

Sanjay Manjrekar further said it was a great test series from an Indian perspective as visitors could have provided impressive performance without the big names. He said:

“What this all happened in front of a packed audience was icing on the cake! A great test series performed in front of an audience and a country that really loves Test cricket. Yes, it was a great test series in many ways.

However, Sanjay Manjrekar was against the idea that the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy was one of the best series in recent memory.

Sanjay Manjrekar felt that the highest quality cricket was not on display, especially as both teams’ bowling attacks were weak. He said:

“A great series for fans, yes, great results for Indian cricket lovers, great ads for Test cricket yes, but how was the best quality cricket? No, that wasn’t the case.

Mohamed Syraj, Ben Stokes, Josh Tan, Jasprit Bumrah and Gus Atkinson in particular looked great on the ball, but others struggled.
