Jose Mourinho left Fenerbafe’s head coach after failing to compete in the league stages of the Champions League.

Mourinho joined the Istanbul Giants in June 2024 and was fired by Rome earlier that year.

He oversaw the second-place finish in the Turkish Super Litgrast campaign, but Fennelvath scored 11 points for Champions Galata Salei.

They also lost to fierce rivals in the Turkish Cup quarterfinals, finishing the Europa League at the past 16 years old, losing in penalties to the Rangers.

Fennelvers was also unable to navigate the Champions League qualifiers from 2024-25. The same was true this week as Benfica was beaten 1-0 in the aggregate in the playoff round.

They have now failed to reach the group or league phase of UEFA Premier Club Competition since 2008-2009, and their latest near misses cost Mourinho’s work.

The club’s statement stated: “Jose Mourinho, the technical director of the first team who has been in duty since the 2024-2025 season, has parted ways with us.

“We appreciate his efforts for our team to this day and hope that he will succeed in his future career.”

Fenerbafe is just the second club since Mourinho joined Porto in 2002 and failed to win a major trophy.

Mourinho is not the only former Manchester United boss who lost his job at a Turkish super rig club this week.

Solskjaer joined the Besiktas only in January, leading them to fourth place last season, but after losing in the conference league playoffs, they won’t appear in Europe.

Besictas announced that Solskal’s contract has ended after a 2-1 total loss was confirmed shortly after a 1-0 home defeat to Swiss side Lausanne Sports on Thursday.

They stated:

“Following the meeting, our chairman, Serdal Adali, thanked Solskjaer for his services so far.”
