Elliott had a great interest from Europe and across the Premier League.
RB Leipzig, West Ham United and Fulham all tried seriously to sign him, but the player was convinced of the Aston Villa project and chose to continue his career under the guidance of UNAI Emery.

The £35 million obligation provides guaranteed revenue, but the buyback clause retains the option for the Reds to re-sign him if many people reach a level they believe they can.
