Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra predicts India and Sri Lanka will be able to compete in the final of the 17th edition of the Asian Cup. Chopra said there is a balanced team in Sri Lanka, adding that he wouldn’t be surprised if the team performed well enough to reach the summit clash with India.
The Asian Cup 2025 will be held in the UAE from September 9th to 28th. A total of eight teams will compete in T20I format at two venues, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Sri Lanka, led by Charith Asalanka, is located in Group B alongside Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Hong Kong for the continental conference.
It could be the final of Indo-Sri Lanka at the Asian Cup 2025.

“They have teams of all the conditions types. Sri Lanka is a good team. They have to back them to qualify. They wouldn’t be surprised if they played well enough to reach the finals.
Sri Lanka has a strong record in the Asian Cup, winning six titles. They won the championship in the 2022 T20I edition and reached the final in 2023, where they lost to India in the ODI format.

The cricketer-turned commentator said that Sri Lanka could become a superstar team despite not being full of individual superstars. He added that the mix of anchor and attacking batters will strengthen the batting lineup.

Charith Asalanka will lead Sri Lanka in upcoming tournaments. Experienced players such as Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera and Dasun Shanaka are included in the batting lineup.
Hasaranga suffered a hamstring injury in a T20I with Bangladesh in July, missing out on a subsequent series with Zimbabwe. He took 131 wickets at the T20IS with an economic rate of 6.98. Legspinner also missed an IPL 2025 match due to an injury.
