Danny Kent has been hard at keeping up to the pace of his ferocious qualifying record after his injuries, but he discovers that the weather changes make a huge difference ahead of his first British Superbikes race at Assen, allowing him to leave on a podium finish.
The MCAMS rider picked up a fracture of his hand after leaking in the final round at Donington Park.
Friday’s practice allowed the former Moto3 champion an opportunity to show he’s speeding up, but at the pace of the qualifying lap record, he placed 10th in Yamaha.
As Kent explained, the rain served as a leveler:
“It’s always nice to get to the podium. Honestly, it was a tough weekend. The mistake I made at Donington brought a kind of fracture in my hands and fingers, and the nature of this truck changed for a fast turn – I’m struggling.
So wet – just made things a little easier for me. ”
Kent was able to shove the wet stuff in, like many riders who have Assen’s wraps under the belt from more recent visits.
This allowed Kent to miss the third place curse. Fraser Rogers, Max Cook and Bradley Ray fell out of all positions just before #52, with the Raceways rider handing Kent the position at the right time.
Kent wanted to thank his team for his efforts and help him achieve his injuries and track and third place.
“But yeah, overall, I have to say it again thanks to the MCAMS races, thanks to the massive ones. They delivered great bikes and managed to get another podium.”
