Liverpool manager Arne Slot was clearly not happy with Hugo Ekitike as he picked up a second yellow card to remove the shirt to celebrate last night’s victory goal against Southampton.
The French forward has started his Reds career strong since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer, but this was a moment of stupidity from him as he was interrupted in the club’s next game.
Ekitike won an important goal yesterday evening to help the LFC beat Southampton in the Carabao Cup, but he was already reserved and given a march order to remove the shirt to celebrate.
Slot was clearly not satisfied with Ekitique’s actions at all, so take a look below…
Arne Slot is dissatisfied with Hugo Ekitike’s celebration
Even without the red cards, the slot doesn’t seem really impressed with ekitike celebrating that way when it was a relatively simple finish from a good team’s move.
The Dutch tactician admitted that he was probably a bit old-fashioned, but he felt that such a goal should be a celebration between teammates and not just one person.
Taking off his shirt and pointing to his name, Ekitique made all the goals about him, and it seems that such an attitude also rubbed the slot in the wrong way.
Can Ekitique bounce off for Liverpool?
It’s fair to say that despite his strong start to life at Anfield, Ekitique cannot afford too many slip-ups like this.
The 23-year-old already knows that he has Alexander Isaac to compete in places in advance, so he needs to do everything he can to fight for his place.
Ekitike misses the team’s next game and clearly leaves the slots irritated, so it would be interesting to see if he can recover and return to the team after his suspension is over.
