The Golden State Warriors made several contractual moves this weekend, which had a major impact on Jonathan Kuminga and Seth Curry.
The Golden State Warriors finally made the necessary signature ahead of the 2025-26 NBA season. The Warriors have suspended the offseason to try to deal with the situation at Jonathan Kuminga.
Yesterday, the Warriors signed a multi-year deal with Al Horford, resolving a months-long limbo condition between the sides.
The Warriors also signed De’anthony Melton and Gary Payton II shortly afterwards, signing a four-year deal with Rookie Will Richard.
And one of these deals is likely to have a major impact on the potential signatures of Jonathan Kuminga and Seth Curry.
The Golden State Warriors sign a #56 pick and Richard will sign a guaranteed deal, which puts Jonathan Cuminga and Seth Curry in danger.
Specifically, the Warriors don’t have a cap room to sign Cuminga on the $75 million contract they offered if they want to sign Seth Curry to a veteran minimum for the 15th roster spot.
Jonathan Cuminga will need to sign $74.5 million if the Warriors want to sign Seth Curry to a veteran minimum contract with a $2.3 million cap hit.
This is why the Warriors signature is so confused that Richard fits the guaranteed contract. They made another two-way slot available and Richard was a second round pick and fitted very well.
The Warriors may be in a difficult position, but there are simple solutions to their current predicament.
Kuminga is willing to help warriors financially by making less money. But his one demand remained the same. It’s a player option for his final season.
The Golden State Warriors know that the options need to be left open in Kuminga. And adding player options to his contract will not reduce his trade.
As things stand, Kuminga is set to miss the Warriors’ media day as contract negotiations stalled. Hopefully they will settle things before the October 1st deadline.
