Cricket Australia is competing against time to rescue the upcoming Big Bash League 2025-26 (BBL 2025-26) season after a sudden decision by Pakistan’s Cricket Board (PCB).
PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmad Syed announced the ban on September 29th after the recent Asian Cup 2025. This shocking move drove the Big Bash League into chaos just weeks before the start of the tournament in December.

However, Cricket Australia boss Todd Greenberg has personally been in discussion with the PCB and is determined to find a solution to get players back for the tournament.

BBL gets a big boost when Ravichandran Ashwin joins Sydney Thunder
Meanwhile, the Big Bash League received much needed boost with the signature of Indian all-around Ravichandran Ashwin. The Sydney Thunder rocked on the ropes the following season at Ashwin.
Regarding Ashwin’s signature, Greenberg said: “We found a clause that allowed us to do the job, and all clubs had equal opportunities to interact with him, and it is a huge moment to welcome the rabbi here.
The legendary offspinner’s BBL debut will be one of the highlights of the season, with organizers predicting a record crowd every time they enter the field in the tournament.

The Cricket Australia boss said, “I found a breath of fresh air in him. I think our fans really enjoy playing and engaging with him when he’s here for the BBL.
However, the ongoing standoffs at PCB remain the biggest headache for Cricket Australia and BBL organizers. If the resolution is not reached soon, Australian clubs may be forced to look for last-minute alternatives. Fans who wanted to see Babar, Shaheen, Rizwan and others will be disappointed, and the BBL could lose some of its international appeal.
