Mark J. Spears is wondering why the NBA won’t cover Cooper Flag’s rookie season more.
Cooper Flag is currently making his preseason debut with the Dallas Mavericks. However, as the match began, there was not much hype or expectations about his first match.
Rookies have already set high standards, at least in the locker room. Klay Thompson admitted that he was impressed with Cooper Flag when they practiced together for the first time.
Anthony Davis lifted Cooper Flag even before playing in an NBA game and praised how good a defender he was.
But despite all the hype his teammates have hyped it up, the NBA isn’t too fuss about Flag’s preseason debut, considering how well he has a future.
Mark J. Spears spoke at NBA Today, sharing his complaints about the NBA and its media partners. He questioned why Cooper Flag wouldn’t be promoted as a promising player.
He pointed out that before he turned 18, Flag was considered to be better than active NBA stars. Spears reminded the league that Flag would be a star and that if it were Victor Wenbanyama, he wouldn’t do this.
“Why is this guy so silent? Where is the Cooper Flag train? I don’t understand. What is he doing in the NBA? Why aren’t he promoting this guy?”
“Just last year I saw him working out in Las Vegas. He was on a selection team with Brandon Miller, Tre Murphy, Jalen Suggs, Amen Thompson and Payton Pritchard.
“One of the coaches said, ‘He’s the best player on the roster.’ He was 17 at the time! He wasn’t even 19 until around Christmas.
Let’s get on the train. This guy would be a star. He should be involved in all promotions. I can’t see him. No one is talking about this guy and they’re making mistakes. ”
Ramona Shelburne: “He’s not 7’5 like Wenby!”
Cooper Flag was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks, which was quite controversial. Just months after the worst decision in franchise history, the Mavericks surprisingly won the NBA Draft Lottery.
After trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Mavericks were conveniently handed a lifeline. Many fans even wondered whether the NBA had rigged the lottery to help the Mavericks.
Regardless of how you get there, Cooper Flag is a heretic. But that’s probably the problem. Since February, every small movement within the Mavericks organization has been under severe scrutiny.
And as if playing alongside three future Hall of Fame stars would not distract the attention, Flag is currently playing under Nico Harrison, the most controversial NBA executive.
Given how solid the future holds for Flag, the NBA will need to work even harder to promote Flag.
