Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has urged the club to dig deeper into their game against Liverpool and force a draw when the two sides meet later this month.

Manchester United got off to a poor start with three wins in seven league games. They will be hoping to get their season back on track and a good result against Liverpool could boost their spirits. Meanwhile, Liverpool are also going through tough times. It was a three-game losing streak in all tournaments.

However, the former Manchester United midfielder is not confident in his team’s chances at Anfield and believes they should at least try their best to force a draw. He also added that he felt it was inevitable that Manchester United would lose at Anfield.

Scholes’ message to Manchester United

He told the Overlap Fan Debate: “Rouben Amorim has to try to get something from Liverpool at Anfield. I’m just thinking about finding a way to draw the game and somehow stop them from scoring.”

“That’s a completely different mentality to what I’m saying about Arsenal going to Liverpool or anyone trying to win the league. But United are so stuck in a rut, I can’t remember the last time they won a big game or a game of great significance – probably City last year.”

“This group of players is in a bad rut so I don’t have confidence in them whether they can get out of it. It’s almost predictable that they go[to Anfield]and get beaten.”

Man United plummeted

His comments suggest how little confidence he has in Manchester United’s chances of achieving a good result at Anfield. Previously, Manchester United looked like they could beat any team in the country. But the former Manchester United star’s recent comments show how far behind they are behind their rivals.

They finished in the bottom half of the league table last season. It will be interesting to see if he can recover strongly this time. A club in their position should at least aim for a top-four finish.

It remains to be seen whether they can take advantage of Liverpool’s vulnerabilities and achieve a good result at Anfield this month.
