Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is nearing the end of his contract with the club.
According to a report via Fichajes, they will be happy to offer him a renewal if he is willing to take a pay cut. The 32-year-old defender will become a free agent at the end of the season.
The defender currently earns around £190,000 a week, but Manchester United no longer want to pay him that amount. If he is willing to accept a shorter contract with performance-based incentives, they will be happy to renew his contract.
The Saudi club are monitoring Maguire’s progress.
New contract for Harry Maguire?
It will be interesting to see whether the England international accepts the terms. He is an important player for the club and it would be ideal for Manchester United to keep him. The opportunity to continue playing at Old Trafford could be exciting for the defender.
Maguire wants to compete at the highest level and would ideally stay at Manchester United. It remains to be seen whether he is ready to renew his contract with the club.
Manchester United have struggled since his arrival in 2019 and will be hoping to bounce back strongly. They are hoping to win a big trophy in the near future and Maguire will no doubt want to be part of their project.
Maguire staying is ideal
Apart from his qualities as a defender, his experience and leadership could be invaluable to Manchester United. They are going through a tough phase and need a leader like him in the dressing room.
Both parties should consider continuing the partnership for now. It can turn out to be very mutually beneficial. The defender has shown he is capable of competing at the highest level and could continue to help Manchester United.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are also keeping an eye on La Liga defender David Affengruber.
