Leicester have made a promising start to their return to the Championship but currently sit outside the automatic promotion ranks. Marto Sifuentes’ team will be keen to finish in the top two and may strengthen in January to do so.
However, doing so is not easy given the limitations of PSR. Having recouped a huge amount of money through the sales of Mads Hermansen, Casey McAteer and James Justin, Leicester bosses will likely welcome further departures once the transfer window reopens to help the club’s financial situation.
And the key player who will help Leicester in this situation is Boubakary Soumare, who has been left out of the starting XI in recent weeks.
Leicester want to sell Boubakari Soumare – 3 clubs keen
According to SportsBoom (via Foxes of Leicester), Leicester are expected to sell Soumare in January, allowing them to avoid losing him for free when his contract expires at the end of the season. The asking price was set at £10m, with Monaco, Roma and Sevilla said to be interested, with the latter having the midfielder on loan for the 2023-24 season.
Soumare has not started in either of Leicester’s last two games, suggesting he is not in Cifuentes’ plans going forward. In this case, it would be wise to let him go as soon as possible, as the money gained from his departure could be reinvested into the first-team squad.
It remains to be seen whether Soumare will leave Leicester in January, as he has been open for some time, but given that he is highly unlikely to get a new contract if he stays, it seems certain that he will leave next summer at the latest.
