Jake LaRavia talked about the Los Angeles Lakers star taking over LeBron James as the team’s natural leader.
The Los Angeles Lakers believe they are in a unique position as a franchise. After LeBron James led the team for nearly seven years, the mantle was passed on to Luka Doncic.
Luka’s addition to the Lakers ensures that the chain of superstar succession is secure.
It’s clear the Lakers are prioritizing Doncic over James going forward, which makes sense considering Luka is entering his prime and LeBron is nearing retirement.
And it appears Doncic is repaying the faith the Lakers have shown in him by stepping up and becoming a leader for the team.
Jake Laravia was asked about the leadership he’s seen from Luka Doncic since joining the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason.
More than anything, the Lakers recognize Luka Doncic for who he is and what he has accomplished in his career. He wants to build mutually beneficial relationships that will help the Lakers win games.
“He’s a vocal leader. But more than that, you follow him because he’s Luka. You know what he’s doing and who he is on the court. It’s easy to get behind someone like that, because he’s Luka.”
“How talented he is and how great of a player he is. For me, I just want to benefit him as much as I can. I help him, he helps me, and I think we’ll have a relationship that wins games.”
NBA fans witnessed a great example of Los Angeles Lakers’ Luka Doncic’s leadership in last night’s game against the Golden State Warriors.
Despite not playing, Doncic made a big impact. Austin Reeves suffered a slight bruise during the match. During a timeout, Doncic told Reaves to end the night without taking any risks, and the young star complied.
Fans will be excited to see what this leadership looks like on the court, and they’ll get their first chance tomorrow night as Luka Doncic makes his preseason debut for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Hopefully, the Slovenian superstar can stay healthy without straining himself while playing elite basketball as we know it.
